Prerna Thakkar

Prerna has lived in Brent for over a decade. The first in her family to go to university, she is completing a degree in Social Policy and Politics at the London School of Economics. While studying, she led a research team developing practical proposals to widen access to scholarships and tackle educational inequality.

Prerna serves as a lay member of Brent Council’s Admissions Appeals Panel, helping to ensure decisions are fair and transparent for parents and carers. She has also worked at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, contributing to the delivery of the UK’s climate goals and bringing national policy experience back to local priorities. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she supported Brent residents by working at the Neasden vaccination clinic.

Prerna values spending time in the community and speaking with residents on the doorstep and at local events, listening to concerns and ideas. Those conversations shape her priorities: tackling poverty and inequality, expanding opportunities for young people, and creating cleaner, greener neighbourhoods. She will work alongside residents, local groups and council officers to strengthen community infrastructure and ensure more local voices are heard in decision-making.
