Teo Benea

Teo Benea is Brent Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Property, and a Labour councillor for Sudbury ward. She has also served as Brent’s Migrant Champion, advocating for migrants’ rights and ensuring migrant communities are better represented and supported across the borough.

Teo is the CEO and Co-founder of the Social Equity Centre, a non-profit organisation dedicated to breaking down barriers for first-generation migrants in the UK, with a particular focus on addressing their underrepresentation in the public sector. She brings extensive experience in communications and community engagement, having worked as a consultant across public affairs, planning and regeneration. Her work has included leading public consultations and stakeholder engagement on major projects in Westminster, across London and in Scotland.

As Training Organiser for the Migrant Democracy Project, Teo designed and delivered the first MPower Political Leadership Programme, supporting and training first-generation migrants from across the political spectrum to stand in future local council elections.

Teo is also deeply involved in community organising. She founded Brent’s Eastern European Festival in 2023 and helped coordinate donation efforts for Ukraine at the start of the war, including cross-border deliveries in partnership with Romanian organisations and activists. In the early days of the conflict, Teo and fellow Sudbury councillors coordinated a major relief effort from St Andrew’s Church, with donations gathered across London filling five trucks sent to Ukraine.

In Sudbury, Teo works to secure the ward’s fair share of investment and improvements. She has supported upgrades including better roads and pavements, cleaner streets and enhanced green spaces in Barham Park, Vale Farm and beyond. She is committed to strengthening community cohesion and ensuring Eastern European communities, alongside all of Brent’s diverse residents, have a strong voice in local decision-making.
