Janice Long

Janice Long was born and brought up in Brent. She attended St Andrew’s Infant and Junior Schools and Willesden High School, before going on to Leeds University. She worked for British Telecom before taking early retirement, and is an active member of London U3A and Kenton and District U3A.

Janice was first elected to Brent Council in 1994 and has represented Mapesbury, Harlesden, Dudden Hill and Willesden Green wards. Over many years of public service she has served on a wide range of committees, including Planning, Scrutiny, Audit and Licensing. She remains closely involved in local community networks and attends meetings of the Pensioners’ Forum, Disability Forum and Brent Connects, as well as Safer Neighbourhood Police meetings.

Janice’s priorities include improving the quality and supply of housing and taking action on climate change. A committed pedestrian, she campaigns for a better walking environment and improved public transport, and is a co-convenor of Brent Living Streets.

She is also active in a number of community and campaigning organisations. Janice leads the Dignity in Dying North West London group and campaigns for a change in the law on assisted dying. She sits on the steering group of the Brent Fairtrade Network and is a trustee of the National Federation of the Blind (London branch). Janice is a member of the Co-operative Party as well as the Labour Party, and has been a trade union member since she started work, currently with Prospect.

Janice holds regular councillor surgeries and supports residents with casework by phone, email and in person. She is also a regular user of FixMyStreet to report and follow up on local issues.
