Tariq Dar

Tariq has lived in Brent for 55 years and has supported the Labour Party for more than 30 years through local and national campaigns. He is well known for his strong community networks, approachable style and long-standing commitment to public service. In recognition of more than 40 years of voluntary work, he was awarded an MBE in 2019. Alongside chairing a local community organisation, he has also served as a trustee of Cricklewood Library and Friends of Gladstone Park.

Tariq has been a councillor for Mapesbury since 2018. He has worked closely with residents on local issues and has supported community efforts to challenge developments that residents felt were inappropriate, including proposals for a concrete plant in Cricklewood and the B&Q development. He has also taken up a wide range of local campaigns, including the campaign for step-free access at Willesden Green Station, support for the Mapesbury Food Bank, and anti-litter drives in local streets and parks.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Tariq helped promote vaccinations locally, including supporting vaccination activity at the mosque and the Brent vaccine bus outside Cricklewood Post Office, ensuring residents had access to reliable information and nearby support.
