Shyamala Rajan-Vince

Shyamala is Labour’s candidate for Northwick Park. She has worked in legal education for several decades across a number of universities, teaching and mentoring generations of students who have gone on to become lawyers and business leaders. Through her career she has built a strong understanding of citizens’ rights and responsibilities, and she brings that knowledge to public service.

Shyamala is a long-standing advocate for fairness and equal treatment. She is particularly committed to the rights of women, disabled people, the LGBT+ community and children. Earlier in her life she chaired the Anti-Apartheid Group at the University of Kent, and more recently she chaired the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum at Ealing Hospital, helping local people have a real voice in how services were run. She has a particular interest in medical law and in strengthening accountability and standards in local health services.

A Brent resident for over 15 years, Shyamala is focused on the everyday issues that matter to residents in Northwick Park, including fly-tipping, the condition of streets and pavements, petty crime, noise pollution, and improving safety for women. As an educator, she also understands the importance of protecting high standards in education and ensuring fair access to opportunity across the borough.

If elected, Shyamala will be an active and approachable councillor, meeting as many residents as possible and working with the Council and community partners to tackle local problems and improve quality of life in Northwick Park.
