Campaigners yesterday handed over a petition of more than 500 signatures from residents who are opposed to plans by Barnet Council and Barrett Homes to build four 29-storey tower blocks right next to the Welsh Harp. The Welsh Harp is Brent’s only Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The petition was presented at Barnet Town Hall.
Cllr Roxanne Mashari, Lead Member for Environment and Neighbourhoods’ said:
“Our community has been amazing. The way they have pulled together to oppose these dreadful plans has been inspiring. Barnet must listen to the voices of our residents who simply want to preserve the Welsh Harp for their children and grandchildren.”
Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said:
“I really hope Barnet take this opportunity to listen to residents who simply want them to stick by their own plans that prevent these kind of developments from destroying the Welsh Harp.”
